Paul's Final Instructions & Greetings

November 12, 2017 Speaker: Cameron Barham Series: The Letter to the Colossians

Scripture: Colossians 4:2–4:18

Key Truth: As a result of our resurrection, we are to thoughtfully engage those outside the church and lovingly encourage those inside the church with our lives.

Introduction:

Q: What has most influenced your views of those outside the church and those inside the church?

Displaying the Resurrection Towards Those Outside the Church:

Colossians 4:2-6:

“Paul evidently believes that opportunities for response and explanation are to be found everywhere, for everyone is looking to discover answers about life and its meaning. And Paul evidently thinks that believing Christians should be found everywhere too, ready to take up these frequent opportunities.”

R.C. Lucas, The Message of Colossians & Philemon Studies: Fullness and Freedom

Q: How are you displaying the resurrection to thoughtfully engage those outside the church?

Displaying the Resurrection Towards Those Inside the Church:

Colossians 4:7-18:

In Colossians terminology, the fullness of Christ floods our souls and overflows to others. If the others are believers, their lives also overflow. There is mutual recognition and mutual refreshment in fellowship with believers.”

Kent Hughes, Colossians and Philemon: The Supremacy of Christ

Q: How are you displaying the resurrection to lovingly encourage those inside the church?

Colossians 4:2-18 teaches us that we are to display the resurrection in our lives to:
- thoughtfully engage those outside the church

-lovingly encourage those inside the church
