The Call to Walk in a Manner Worthy of The Lord

August 27, 2017 Preacher: Series: The Letter to the Colossians

Scripture: Colossians 1:9–14

Key Truth: Our knowledge of God’s redemptive will should grow and affect how we live in union with Christ.

Introduction:

Q: What has most helped you grow in your knowledge of God’s will?

Colossians 1:9-14: Paul’s Prayer for Lived Knowledge in Union with Christ:

“A profound knowledge should profoundly affect one’s walk. It must be understood that any doctrine which isolates the believer from the needs of the world is not a spiritual doctrine. Or put another way, if our doctrine lifts our feet so high that our fee cannot reach the ground, it is false. Paul prayed that the Colossians would walk their talk, that their knowledge of Christ would grow, and that this, in turn, would produce a conduct which was worthy of the Lord, pleasing Him in all respects. This is how we should pray.”

R. Kent Hughes, Colossians and Philemon: The Supremacy of Christ

Q: What are some ways in which how you live has changed as a result of your growing knowledge of God’s redemptive will? How has this affected your endurance, patience, and joy? Have you grown in gratitude as a result?

Colossians 1:9-14 teaches us that:
-knowledge of God’s redemptive will should grow and affect how we live in union with Christ

“The obedience Christians practice must be sufficient to give the world an adequate picture of their Lord and His purposes for mankind.”

R.C. Lucas, The Message of Colossians and Philemon:
Fullness and Freedom

Benediction:

Colossians 4:2,5-6
